Roundstone Lass IRE 235

Roundstone Lass was a black mare born in 1931. Only three of her daughters were registred and the first of these, Brown Admiral, was never to leave any traces as a brood mare. Daughter number two, however, Keaney's Lass, gave through her daughter, Bally Lor, and grand daughter, Silver Lace, rise to a nice mare family.

Silver Lace's most famous daughter, Abbeyleix Lucy, was exported to Great Britain where she has been awarded a super premium for her success as a brood mare at the Ballymore stud. Her Irish born daughter, Abbeyleix Lucinda followed her dam to the UK. She has distinguished herself under saddle by qualifying to the ridden Mountain and Moorland Championships at Olympia in 1981. Her sister, Ballymore Lulu, has followed in her mother's footprints as a super premium mare. She was breeding at the Pilgrim stud and among her offspring are Pilgrim's Spellbound, runner up for Brittish Performance Award Scheme in 1999, Pilgrim's Mistral, brood mare at the Hearnesbrook stud and dam to the Canadian export Hearnesbrook Shooting Star and the stallion Pilgrim's Excaliber, successful both ridden, in hand and as a stallion.

Ballymore Luciano, another of Abbeyleix Lucy's progeny, have been a very successful stallion. He was awarded a super premium in 1995 for his success both ridden himself and as a sire of ponies in hand and under saddle. Among his get are the olympia qualifier Ballymore Seamus and successfully competing Kilcolman Puffin. Lucianos full brother, Ballymore Lucador, was exported to Sweden as a foal, and has been very successful under saddle. He started his carrier by winning the performance test in 1993 and has since moved on as a very successful eventing pony. In 1999 he was the fifth best eventing Connemara in Sweden. Another of Lucy's successful performance offspring is Ballymore Rocky Minstrel who was well up among the top of the British performance award scheme in the early 80-ies.

Of the rest of Silver Lace's offspring one daughter, Abbeyleix Lizzy, has been exported to the Netherlands where she was awarded a ster-award, and a son, Crockaun Connemara, also known as Croc on Oir, was sent all the way to Lesotho in an attempt to improve the local pony breed. In his old age Croc on Oir moved to South Africa an has left a number of offspring at the Ashgar stud.

Roundstone Lass' third daughter was named Rusheen Blackbird, and one of her grand daughters, Caroline, out of Glinsk Molly, was exported to the USA. Another of Blackbird's daughters, Ard Lass, has among her descendants the French exported grand son Ardnasillagh Magnus and the daughter Mystic Isle, which in the UK has given rise to a small family of Mystic ponies. Her daughter Pany Isle is also exported to France and the grand daughter Mystic Shades of Pale is now living out her days in Austria.

Blackbird's third daughter, Kilbricken Pride, doesn't have Rusheen Blackbird identified as her dam in the Irish stud book. The fact is she is registred twice, once out of Doonmanus, and the second time without known ancestry, but in the Danish stud book Rusheen Blackbird is given as her dam. One may wonder which pedigree is correct, but let us for now keep Kilbricken Pride in Roundstone Lass' family. Kilbricken Pride's most successful offspring is without doubt Ardnasillagh Treasure. Before she was exported to Denmark in 1973 she had four foals in Ireland. One of them, the stallion to be, Ardnasillagh O'Flaherty, followed her to Denmark as did his sister Ardnasillagh Amethyst. As a brood mare at the Öxenholm, and later the Skatholm stud, Treasure has given rise to a very strong branch of the family and has well earned her Elite premium.

Ardnasillagh Amethyst had one foal at Öxenholm, Öxenholm Amber which was later exported to Norway, before she became brood mare at the Brunskaer stud. One of her offspring there was Brunskaer Akvamarin which was exported to Finland. Ardnasillagh O'Flaherty showed his class at the international Connemara festival at Roskilde in 1977, when he won the class for 3-5 year old stallion. A few years later he had a successful carrier as a dressage pony with a team silver and an individual ninth place at the 1982 European championchips. The following year he was back with a twelveth place. Also O'Flaherty's progeny has been successful competition ponies, especially in dressage. The approved son Munkhom Cobbergate has competed in the European championships and has a team silver from the Nordic championships. His full sister Munkholm Colooney has a team gold and an individual broNZe from the Nordic championships and a European championship team silver with an individual seventh place. In 1988 Ardnasillagh O'Flaherty was sold to Finland and bred there until his death in 1996.

Ardnasillagh Treasure's first Danish-born daughter was Öxenholm Tresmeralda. She was awarded class 1 in 1978 and was the dam of several successful competition ponies. Öxenholm Traffic Light and the approved son Tootle U in dressage, Tullamore U in show jumping and the grand son Popelly Testban which has been a successful jumper in Sweden. Other offspring to Arnasillagh Treasure to distinguished themselves in the ridden arena are Öxenholm Bullworker in dressage ant the approved stallions Skatholm Talisman in show jumping and Öxenholm Topsider in dressage. Apart from having competed in dressage himself on as high a level as the European championships and with a team silver from the 1991 Nordic championships, Topsider have also passed on his dressage genes to coming generations.

After the international Connemara festival at Roskilde in 1981, two of Arnasillagh Treasure's offspring were exported to Australia and the Glenormiston stud, the stallion Öxenholm Gideon and his half sister Öxenholm Tiffany. Gideon stood a few seasons at stud in Denmark before being exported and left behind the successfully competing Dorthealyst Coriander and Wick Gizell. The latter was a prominent dressage pony with both a Nordic championship medal and a European championship participation before she was exported to Sweden where she has continued competing. In 1988 she was the eigthth most successful Connemara in dressage. At Glenormiston, Gideon was a cherished family member up until his death in 2000. He was stallion at stud, ridden pony and show champion. His owner wrote after his death "If only every child, and indeed adult, could have a pony like him, they would continue to ride forever." Öxenholm Tiffany has also left her traces at Glenormiston, in Australia and even in the USA. Her son Glenormiston Flurry Knox is standing at stud in the USA and a grand son, Glenormiston Cushulainn is now in the same country as a promising stallion prospect.

Ardnasillagh Treasure's offspring has spread to even more countries. Her daughter Öxenholm Tenderly has been exported to Germany where she is the dam of the approved stallion Rasmus, and two of Treasure's progeny have come to Sweden. One is the son Skatholm Sir Thomas, the other the daughter Öxenholm Touch Wood. Touch Wood showed her class as a three year old when she was awarded a diploma and was also gold awarded at the breed show. Among Touch Wood's descendants are ponies that have distinguished themselves both in hand and under saddle. Two grand daughters, Merrielegs and Talias Belleza have been awarded a diploma, and the son Touchwood What's-On and the grandson Nautilus have participated in the the performance test. Touchwood Wiceguy and Tresmeralda have both been competing successfully in dressage, but the brightest shining star may well be the approved stallion Touchwood Winston. The last three years he has been highly ranked and in 2000 he won the major pony dressage cup. He is yet another descendant of Roundstone Lass to prove just how successful a Connemara pony can be in the ridden arena.
